12 APPLICATION PROCESS AND ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS All Degree-Seeking and Certificate Applicants The following application materials must be submitted: 1. Student application for admission This is available online at www.denverseminary.edu (then click the "Become a Student" button). Carefully read the NAE Statement of Faith, Community Values & Behavioral Commitments, and the Student Handbook policies that govern student life at the applicable campus of Denver Seminary. Sign the form only if you can do so without mental reservation. By signing this form you agree to abide by these standards and policies while attending school or face possible dismissal from the school. 2. Essays Carefully prepare two essays: (1) a biographical essay, and (2) a spiritual growth and development essay. These must be typed and demonstrate graduate-level writing skills. a. Biographical essay (500-700 word limit) Include, for example, significant and important persons and events, especially as they have impacted, or continue to impact, your personal growth and development. Describe your family of origin, current family relationships, and important and supportive social relationships. Address any major life challenges (such as job loss, trauma, divorce, death) and how you have dealt with (or are dealing with) them. b. Spiritual growth and development essay (500-700 word limit) Discuss your religious background and personal conversion experience. Include, for example, your call to ministry/vocation, ministry experiences, and church involvement and other things that have impacted your spiritual identity and growth. c. Master of Theology (ThM) Writing Sample (1,000-2,000 word limit) Applicants for the Th.M. program should submit a sample academic research essay that they have authored by themselves consisting of approximately 1,000-2,000 words. The essay should include a well-defined thesis that the applicant goes on to defend or refute. It could take the form of a book review that critically evaluates the book under consideration. It could also be a published article or an unpublished essay. It should be in the general area in which the applicant is applying (e.g. Old Testament, New Testament, or Theology). d. Application for Major, Concentration, or Track (not required for DMin) Please state your desired program and explain how this program fits with your vocational goals as well as how you are equipped to succeed at Denver Seminary. 3. Supplemental Information a. Three references. At least one reference must be from a pastor or someone in a position of Christian leadership in your life. All references must have known you for at least a year and may not be related to you. Th.M. applicants must submit one pastoral reference and two academic references. b. Official transcripts. Transcripts are required from any institution where a bachelor's degree or higher has been earned. An official transcript is required from the institution where a baccalaureate degree has been completed. Master's or doctoral transcripts may be unofficial. Master of Theology and Doctor of Ministry applicants only: An official transcript is required from the graduate institution where a Master of Divinity or its equivalent has been completed. Undergraduate transcripts are not required for Master of Theology or Doctor of Ministry applicants. Official transcripts must be sent directly from the school in sealed envelopes to Denver Seminary or issued electronically directly by the institution or an approved issuing body. c. Doctor of Ministry applicants must submit all of the above application materials along with a resume that includes both educational and professional experience as well as a ministry endorsement form.
