CF 515 Creating Transformational Cultures and Communities Explores how formational and soul care ministries can be cultivated in church communities, parachurch organizations, and educational institutions. Offered fall semester, even years. Two hours. CF 590, 690 Studies in Christian Formation and Soul Care These course numbers are reserved for courses of special or one-time interest that do not otherwise appear in the catalog. Two or three hours. CF 591, 691 Individualized Study in Christian Formation and Soul Care These course numbers are reserved for courses that are designed to free the student for independent investigation in Christian Formation and Soul Care under the guidance of a professor. One to three hours. CF 601 Formational and Healing Prayer This course explores the place and practice of Spirit-led prayer in ministering God's healing and transformative grace to the whole person. Course methodologies include reading and reflection on select books on Divine healing, personal practice, lectures that include life stories of the instructors, demonstrations of healing prayer, and laboratory practice of healing prayer in small groups. Offered summer session, even years. Two hours. CF 602 Spiritual Formation for Life and Ministry This course is designed to give understanding and experience of spiritual formation and its practices as defined by the New Testament and the history of the disciples of Jesus. At times, spiritual formation has been stereotyped as being at odds with ministry and mission: inward focus versus outward focus. The course will demonstrate the biblical and historical integration of the two, particularly with a view to the insights of the ancient church. Offered spring semesters. Two hours. CF 603 Skill Development in Soul Care This course complements and completes CF 513 The Practice of Soul Care and enhances competency in both individual and group spiritual direction and general soul care. Emphasis is given to the development of specific soul care skills and practical ministry application. This course also includes a one-hour practicum of offering in-class soul care/spiritual direction to a fellow student followed by peer discernment, and review of each student's work in a supervisory environment. Prerequisite: CF 513 The Practice of Soul Care. Offered spring semesters. Three hours. CF 604 Readings in Patristic Spirituality Engages the wisdom for formation and soul care as presented by leading patristic spiritual authorities in the Christian tradition. Emphasis is on readings from the original sources informed by their respective historical and biographical backgrounds. Offered fall semesters, odd years. Two hours. CF 606 Scripture, Formation, and Soul Care This course establishes Scripture as the primary text for spiritual formation and soul care. The formative power of psalm-praying, lectio divina, and imaginative meditation on Scripture will be studied and practiced. The Lukan parables as dynamic sources for understanding and offering soul care are examined. Offered fall semesters. Two hours.
