Appeal of a Grade
Students who wish to contest a grade must do so within one (1) year of receipt of that grade in accordance
with the Grading System policy outlined in the Academic Catalog. If a student feels that his/her final
semester grade in a course is not equitable, the following process is available: (A) the student discusses the
grade with the professor of the course. (B) If not satisfied with the professor's decision, the student may
fill out an Appeal of Grade Form and submit it to the Faculty Services Department. The appeal will be given
to a committee composed of a Faculty Mediator (assigned by the Provost) and a representative from
Student Life, who will work towards mediation with the student and professor. (C) if the matter remains
unresolved, the student may appeal to the Provost. In the appeal to the Provost, the student should
articulate the reason(s) why he/she believes the decision should be appealed based on the following
criteria: 1) substantive errors in due process; 2) presentation of new evidence/information that was not
available in the original mediation.
Course Taping Policy
Students must always request the instructor's permission to make audio or video recording of a course.
Such recordings are to be used solely and exclusively for the purposes of that student's study for the course
and are not to be distributed in any form without the knowledge and permission of the instructor. "Taking
the course" by listening to recordings made in class is not permitted except in formalized individualized
study situations.
