2019-2020 Student Handbook 58 If the student has exhausted all available resources in their area, they should contact the Collection Management Librarian at Denver Seminary who will assist with an ILL for the item. In-Ministry Requirement Since the DMin is an applicational degree, students must already be in ministry to enter the program and remain in ministry throughout the program. Ministry provides the context for integrative application of what is learned. Also, students must have been in ministry for at least three years subsequent to their Master of Divinity degree (or other master's degree) before entering the DMin program. One must have sufficient experience in ministry to understand how the course work is applicable to the ministry in which one is engaged. Time Limit for Total Program It is expected that students will complete the entire doctoral program within the allotted years. (Six years for students who began spring 2015 or earlier; five years for students who began fall 2015 or later.) Students who find that circumstances make it necessary to take longer may petition the DMin Committee for an extension. Students granted a program extension must demonstrate clear progress each semester in order to continue. Petition for an Extension When extenuating circumstances make it impossible for doctoral students to adhere to the time limitations listed above, a petition for a program extension may be submitted to the DMin Committee. The petition must include an explanation of the reasons for the request. There will be agreement at that point on a time frame for the completion of the program. Seminar Information Minimum Number of Students Required for a Seminar The minimum enrollment for seminars is five students. If a seminar is canceled because of low enrollment, students will be notified within a few days of the final registration (add) deadline. The DMin office will assist students in registering for another course. Do not book airline tickets until you know the seminar will be conducted. Policy on Transfer Credit from Other Doctor of Ministry Programs Credit for doctoral work taken at other accredited seminaries may be transferred to Denver Seminary's DMin program under the following conditions: 1. The DMin Director will determine whether the course content and number of credit hours for work taken at other institutions are acceptable for transfer. Such determination is to be made in consultation between the Director and the applicant before admittance to the program at Denver Seminary. Transfer credit must be for work taken at the doctoral level. 2. Transfer credit will be limited to replacing up to two seminars (six semester hours) in a student's program. Transfer credit reduces the number of electives (including individualized studies) students may take. If two seminars (six hours) are transferred, no electives may be taken. If one
