The Pinetops Foundation landmark study, The Great Opportunity, warns that if Gen Zers, those born after 2000, disaffiliate from Christianity at the same rate as Millennials, 42 million more people will leave the faith by 2050. As we reflect on 2018-19 and look to 2019-20 and beyond, we must proactively take greater steps to engage more people in the redemptive power of the gospel. In June 2019, Denver Seminary's Board of Trustees approved the establishment of The Gospel Initiative for the fall of 2020. Its purpose is to help the Church engage the difficult questions of our days that commend the gospel with compassion and credibility. We won't back down from the tough and divisive issues like sexuality, racism, immigration, science and faith, partisan politics, religious pluralism, gun violence, and others. Rather, we will step into them with the goals of understanding how to address the needs they represent and commending the gospel to those whose views may differ from our own.
