9 December 4 FulFilling god's Mission The prophet Isaiah proclaimed the mission of Jesus Christ centuries before He came to earth in the fullness of His humanity and deity. As Wonderful Counselor, Jesus, in con- junction with the Father, formed the amazing plan of our redemption from the beginning of time. As Mighty God, Jesus is the Lord of hosts, the King of kings, and Lord of lords. As Everlasting Father, Jesus is eternal; He always was and always will be. He is the founder or father of our Christian faith. As Prince of Peace, Jesus granted us peace by shedding His precious blood on Calvary for the remission of our sins and by rising from the dead in all power and glory. Even as a young child, Jesus understood His mission when He said to His earthly parents, "Why did you seek me? Did you not know that I must be about my father's business?" (Luke 2:49). As an adult, Jesus reiterated many times that He was singularly focused on His mission. "By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me" (John 5:30). As we reflect on this season of Advent, remember that God has a mission for us. "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. And… you shall love your neighbor as yourself " (Matthew 22:37, 39). What prac- tical things can we do right now? How can we love our neighbors, coworkers, and family members this season? We have the greatest gift of all time to offer to every person connected to us who does not know Jesus as their personal Savior! "But you are a chosen people, a royal priest- hood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light" (1 Peter 2:9). Let us do some- thing practical today to begin to fulfill God's mission for us during this season of Advent. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." – Isaiah 9:6
