6 FOR ALL THE NATIONS Colossians 3:12-17 A few days before Christmas, I took a group of foreign students into the Rockies in order to cut down some evergreens. You see, in this vicinity we have a number of colleges and universities, which are attended by several hundred men and women from Europe, Asia, and South America. So we formed a little organization that endeavors to show Christian hospitality to these internationals and win them to our Savior by an indirect approach that ultimately culminates in a direct presentation of the Gospel. That's why just before Christmas we journeyed up to the Flying J Ranch, owned by our good friends, Mr. and Mrs. John Schoonhoven. All the students who went along that day are from Asia, and what a time they had hewing down trees, dragging them through the snow, and enjoying a hot supper in front of the blazing fireplace. We also conducted two socials for these students during the holiday season. One was prior to Christmas, a sacred concer t, topped off by refreshments. The other was a rather hilarious affair on New Year's Day. I feel that the time is well spent. After all, if we can make a dent on the future leaders of our own country and other lands, we will have done something significant. When I realize what is going on elsewhere in the world—the pover ty, disease, and hopelessness which prevail —I am constrained to bow my head in humility as well as gratitude. Paul's question is abidingly per tinent; "What do you have that you have not received?" (1 Cor. 4:7). And what we receive comes to us not because of merit but in sheer mercy. DECEMBER 3
