10 SPRING 2021 THE GOSPEL INITIATIVE AS THE GOSPEL INITIATIVE CONTINUES TO BUILD MOMENTUM, ISSUES FORUMS ARE CREATING SPACE FOR BOLD AND CHALLENGING CONVERSATIONS, WHILE GOSPEL CHALLENGE WORKSHOPS ARE BEING PILOTED WITHIN INDIVIDUAL CHURCHES, AS THEY WORK TO REIMAGINE GOSPEL MINISTRY FOR THE 21ST CENTURY. ISSUES FORUMS The Gospel Initiative's nondenominational, nonpartisan Issues Forums provide opportunities for church leaders, ministry practitioners, lay leaders, and others to consider credible and thoughtful resources and learn from issues experts. Participants are empowered to contemplate approaches churches may take to address critical issues, consider the consequences of inaction, and work to discern what Christians can and should be doing to ensure that a gospel presence is part of these conversations. The first Issues Forum, Racial Injustice "Under the Law": Confronting the underpinnings of racial profiling and high incarceration rates among people of color, was held March 25. Moderated by The Gospel Initiative's executive director Dr. Mark Harden, topic experts explored the consequences of failing to address the issues of racial profiling and high incarceration rates among people of color, and what role churches can have in addressing these challenges. This first forum kicked off a three-part series designed to consider how churches can engage racism for the sake of the gospel. This series is part of the Seminary's Kent Mathews Endowed Lectureship in Christian Social Ethics, which seeks to cultivate a biblical social ethic by Rawpixel/iStock The Gospel Initiative Engages through Issues Forums and Gospel Challenge Workshops
