Don't Miss the Message While Looking for the Sign FELIX GILBERT, MDIV DIRECTOR OF THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN INITIATIVE of God to with message, David The angel cloths toappearedinisashepherds(LuketheThis will be"Today in the town ofwill finda aSavior has been born you; He Christ the Lord. a sign to you: You baby wrapped in and lying manger" 2:11-12). "THIS WILL BE A SIGN TO YOU: YOU WILL FIND A BABY, WRAPPED IN CLOTHS..." (LUKE 2:12) If you were to ask the shepherds where they found the child, they would have said, "We didn't find Him in the marketplace of Bethlehem. And we didn't have to spend any money to find Him because we were given a specific sign, the baby would be 'wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger'" (Luke 2:12). Had the shepherds gotten caught up in the celebration of the news, they would have missed the sign. Had they focused on getting the perfect gift, they also might have missed the sign. Had they focused on putting on the right clothes and getting everything in order before they began their search, they might have missed it too. As we celebrate this Christmas season, let us be reminded that Christmas is not about getting that perfect gift, wearing the right clothes, or having those decorations in perfect order. We should be careful not to get so caught up in celebrating the arrival of the season that we forget the message that was given: A child is born! In our search for the Child, we must be careful not to miss the sign. So, as a reminder, don't spend too much time looking in the wrong places or focusing on the wrong things. As you search for the Child this Christmas season, don't spend all your time searching the malls or surfing the Web. Wherever you look for the Child this Christmas season, make sure He's found lying in the manger of your heart. 04 DECEMBER DENVER SEMINARY CHRISTMAS 2013 9
