Alumni in Action From the United States to France, three alumni are following God's call on their lives. ALUMNI A rare Dutch picture Bible dated to 1659 was recently donated by an anonymous alumnus(a) to the Carey S. Thomas Library at Denver Seminary. This Bible is the oldest book owned by the Seminary, and may be the only such copy in a library on the continent. The Seminary is very grateful to the donor for this generous gift to our growing collection of rare books. Mary Stromer Hanson (2012) | MASTER OF ARTS Mary Stromer Hanson graduated from Denver Seminary with an MA (emphasis in New Testament). In her last semester, Mary submitted two book proposals to a publisher. The first was a reworking of her New Testament thesis on Luke 10:38-42, the story of Mary and Martha. The second was a volume she had worked on for a decade, entitled Bold Girls Speak. Within a few weeks of graduation, in 2012, both books were accepted for publication. Mary's first book, The New Perspective on Mary and Martha, re-examines the traditional reading of both the passage and Luke, offering a new perspective on discipleship, ministry, trust, and the family of Jesus. Bold Girls Speak is an accessible collection of narratives from the Old and New Testaments exploring the stories of young girls, often easily forgotten in the midst of the grand narratives in which they play a part. Through the stories in this book, Mary's hope is to inspire young girls and women to follow God's unique call on their lives. While learning to promote her books, Mary enjoys attending a writers group on the Seminary campus and has continued to rework her thesis. She will be presenting it at the Society of Biblical Literature's regional convention in March 2014. Jonah Haddad (2008) | MASTER OF ARTS The same year that Jonah completed his MA in philosophy of religion at Denver Seminary he and his family moved to Lyon, France where he works in apologetics and teaches at a local church. His time at Denver Seminary helped prepare him to approach the philosophically minded people of Europe by inviting them to come and reason with him. Since living in Lyon, Jonah has learned much from his French colleagues and enjoys engaging people through both the spoken and written word. In fact, his love for the proclamation of truth led him to write a book entitled Insanity: God and Theory of Knowledge, recently published by Wipf and Stock. The book seeks to introduce some of the central questions of how we know the world while pointing the reader to God as the ultimate source of knowledge. Jonah's prayer is that this book will serve not only as a convincing argument for the truth of the Christian worldview, but that it will also encourage the body of Christ.
