38 DML - CHURCH &PARACHURCH EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP CONCENTRATION DML-802 Becoming a Leader Who Can Lead Effectively Leading requires character as well as knowledge and leadership skills. The aim of this seminar is to enrich the students' own personalities, spirituality, godly disciplines, emotions, temperaments and giftedness so they will be more prepared to lead effectively. The seminar will focus on the importance of developing the person of the leader in effective leadership. Several developmental models for personal and leader development will be examined. Required for all concentrations in Leadership Track. Three hours. DML-803 Understanding & Solving Problems in Ministry & Leadership Ministry and leadership, in both church and para-church settings, presuppose problems. Problem identification and resolution are key components of faithful and fruitful ministry. Because these are some of our greatest areas of challenge, they require ongoing intellectual training and skill development. This seminar focuses on problem identification, problem solving, and solution evaluation at the personal, systemic and academic levels. Required for all concentrations in Leadership Track. Three hours DML-811 Developing Leaders: A Philosophy & Strategy for Leadership Training Never has there been a greater need to train more leaders for ministry and the Church than today. This seminar addresses that need with practical real life experience. Students are exposed to a wide spectrum of leadership development theory and practice. Various levels of leadership require numerous models for training leaders. These training models will be supported by leadership development theory and practice. This seminar will help students develop a better understanding of their own leadership style and philosophy as well as practical tools for mentoring new leaders along the way. Three hours. DML-812 Developing People: The Backbone of Leadership Whatever the relationship – small groups, marriage, parenting, staff, mentoring, or coaching, – effective leaders develop others. They don't simply use people to accomplish goals, but develop them as part of the process. To develop people, leaders must understand them, their strengths, what motivates them, and how to form teams. This seminar focuses on the equipping role of pastors and parachurch leaders and is designed to help them multiply their ministry in the church and community. Three hours. DML-813 Leading & Managing the Church & Parachurch Congregations and Christian organizations have become increasingly complex. Yet, many Christian leaders have not been adequately trained and equipped to deal with these organizational complexities. In this seminar, students will examine how people come together in organizations and how organizational processes, structures, and cultures impact and influence the effectiveness of churches and parachurches. Students will look at Christian organizations through several key frames or "lenses" with the goal of better understanding how these ministries currently function and ways leaders can help them be healthier and function more efficiently. This seminar also counts as a core elective for Leadership in Preaching and Pastoral Ministry (DMP course code). Three hours. DML-814 Pastoral Leadership in the 21st Century: Leading Missional-Shaped Congregations In this seminar, students are invited to construct missional church leadership strategies that are contextualized by their theological tradition and place of ministry. Spiritual gifts, strengths and skills are examined for leadership in a wide cross-section of church and staff sizes. Staff leadership is explored as a solo staff, or as lead staff with full, part-time, and volunteer leaders. Skill and spiritual gift development is emphasized.
