ENGAGE 5 Summer in Review SETECA Library Named in Honor of Dr. M. Daniel Carroll Rodas In July 2014, Dr. Danny Carroll made his biennial trip to Guatemala with six Denver Seminary students to teach a course on contextualized hermeneutics at SETECA (Seminario Teológico Centroamericano), a partner seminary of Denver Seminary. To his surprise, while on this trip, SETECA honored Carroll by naming their library after him. La Biblioteca Daniel Carroll Rodas, as it is now named, is the largest evangelical theological library in Latin America. It has 23,000 volumes and subscribes to about 80 journals and magazines. The naming was to recognize Carroll's many years of contribution to the library, to SETECA, and to Latin American biblical scholarship. "I was genuinely stunned and humbled by this honor. Over the years, both while teaching in Guatemala City and at Denver Seminary, I have always tried to help the SETECA library in many ways. The honor means so much to me because I am half- Guatemalan. Now I feel that something tangible of my person is in Guatemala, a country so very deep in my soul. That means more to me than words can describe." – Dr. M. Daniel Carroll Rodas, Distinguished Professor of Old Testament Summertime in Israel This past summer, Drs. Hélène Dallaire and David Mathewson took 17 Denver Seminary students and friends to Israel for a three-week class studying under Dr. J. Carl Laney from Western Seminary. Faculty Publications Craig Blomberg, PhD DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR OF NEW TESTAMENT Can We Still Believe the Bible?: An Evangelical Engagement with Contemporary Questions was released in March 2014 and is the 22nd book authored, co-authored, or edited by Dr. Blomberg. In it, he provides an articulate and accessible argument for the Bible's reliability in response to ongoing challenges to the trustworthiness of Scripture. Ronald Welch, PsyD ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF COUNSELING The Controlling Husband: What Every Woman Needs to Know was published in June 2014. In this candid book, Dr. Welch gives practical strategies to help both husband and wife transform the power and control issue in their marriage. It is also a valuable resource for counselors working with hurting couples.
