Alumni in Action From Ukraine to Littleton, Colorado, these alumni are following God's call on their lives. ALUMNI Erin Heim (2009) | MASTER OF ARTS Erin Heim graduated from Denver Seminary with an MA in biblical studies, emphasis in New Testament. When considering where to apply for doctoral studies, she told her advisor, Dr. Craig Blomberg, "I don't think I'm quite done adventuring yet." So she settled on the University of Otago in New Zealand. In February of 2011, Erin and her husband, Peter, flew across the Pacific to Dunedin, a coastal city near the southern tip of New Zealand. When the plane landed in the middle of a field of sheep and they had to walk across the runway tarmac to get to the terminal, they wondered if this was really the sort of adventure they were hoping for. Fortunately they found in New Zealand a world-class university, a wonderful church (in which Peter served as pastor of youth and family ministries), a picturesque country, and a rich and diverse culture. Erin's doctoral thesis focused on developing a new hermeneutical method for reading the adoption metaphors in Romans and Galatians. Her thesis, entitled Light through a Prism: New Avenues of Inquiry for the Pauline Huiothesia Metaphors, was named to the University of Otago's list of exceptional theses for 2014. Erin is happy to be back at Denver Seminary where she will teach courses in New Testament as a teaching fellow for the 2014–2015 school year. Andrey Puzynin (1997) | MASTER OF ARTS Andrey Puzynin graduated from Denver Seminary with an MA in biblical studies, emphasis in New Testament. Upon graduation he moved back to Donetsk, Ukraine, and taught New Testament at Donetsk Christian University. During that time, his MA thesis, Jesus' Model of Discipleship, was published as a book in Russian by Colloquium Publishers. In 2001 he moved to Kiev to coordinate and tutor the MA (intercultural studies) program at the Eastern European campus of Nyack College/Alliance Theological Seminary in Ukraine. Two years later, the University of Wales, Lampeter and the Oxford Center for mission studies awarded Puzynin a PhD studentship. His PhD thesis, The Tradition of the Gospel Christians, was published by Wipf and Stock Publishers in 2011. He completed a license in divinity (LicDD) postdoctoral degree at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in 2011 and was awarded the William Payton Post-Doctoral Fellowship by the University of Birmingham, UK in 2012. In January of 2013, Andrey was appointed as Director of Lugansk Regional Bible College, Ukraine. The school attracted more than 100 students but, due to the outbreak of violence in Eastern Ukraine in the spring of 2014, the operation of the college had to be paused. Andrey is married to Oksana and has three boys. If you have resources or referrals that are helpful to the Denver Seminary alumni community, please let us know.
