Denver Seminary Opens Washington DC and West Texas Extension Campuses This spring Denver Seminary opened its Washington DC extension campus, offering a master of divinity, a master of arts in leadership, and a graduate certificate in biblical and theological studies at First Baptist Church of Glenarden in Landover, Maryland. A new class of students is enrolled and they have begun their Denver Seminary degrees on the East Coast! In the fall of 2015, the new West Texas extension campus will begin offering classes for a master of arts in leadership, a master of arts in counseling ministries, and a graduate certificate in biblical and theological studies at Hillside Christian Church in Amarillo, Texas. Students can complete up to 49 percent of their coursework in Amarillo. However, the Seminary will petition for the 2016-2017 academic year to allow completion of the entire degree at the West Texas location! Be sure to tell your friends in the Baltimore/Washington DC region or in West Texas about our new extension campuses! Curriculum Redesign Update Seminary 2.0: We're Reimagining Seminary Education Beginning fall 2015, Denver Seminary will implement the most extensive redesign to the master of divinity (MDiv) and master of arts (MA) in our 50-year history. The design will provide superior flexibility and personalization to match students' interests, learning styles, and vocations. The new programs will allow students to go deeper into the areas of study that match their gifts and will provide the agility to move into ministry faster. The redesigned MDiv requires 60 hours of core courses (with some flexibility built in) and 18 hours for either open electives or a combination of a concentration and open electives. We added a new biblical preaching concentration, and we updated the core for the MDiv with courses such as Thinking Biblically/Theologically, Relational Ministry, and Ministry Leadership. The redesign allows students to tailor their programs toward a particular ministry direction or with a certain type of preparation in mind. We are offering many of the same MA programs under the new curriculum but with a revised core* of classes, including Thinking Biblically/Theologically, Old Testament, New Testament, Church History, Theology, and Mentored Formation. The new MA programs will require 50 hours for completion (except for the MA in clinical mental health counseling, which will require 60 hours). Visit denverseminary.edu/reimagined to learn more about our redesigned curriculum. Faculty Publication Richard S. Hess, PhD EARL S. KALLAND PROFESSOR OF OLD TESTAMENT AND SEMITIC LANGUAGES Ancient Israel's History: An Introduction to Issues and Sources was released in November of 2014 as a joint effort by Drs. Hess and Bill T. Arnold. Together with other scholars, they collate a substantive history of Israel and address various critical issues and challenges relevant to modern scholarship on Israel's oft-debated history. *Core requirements are different for the MA in clinical mental health counseling and MA in school counseling degrees.
