147 colleges, he has given invited lectures at Oregon State University; SAIACS, Bangladore; Min Zu University, Beijing; Lancaster Bible College Graduate School; Faraday Institute, Cambridge University; New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati; and Whitely College, Melbourne. Dr. Hess is a member of the Committee on Biblical Translation for the New International Version. He also serves as Old Testament and archaeology editor for the forthcoming NIV Zondervan Study Bible. He has also worked for the New International Version, New American Bible, Holman Standard Christian Bible, English Standard Version, and Common English Bible translations of the Old Testament. He is an editor of a series of commentaries on the Septuagint and has translated books of the Septuagint for Logos Bible Software. Dr. Hess has authored nine books, including volumes on religion (Israelite Religions: A Biblical and Archaeological Survey), ancient Near Eastern subjects (Amarna Personal Names and Names in the Study of Biblical History), Genesis (Studies in the Personal Names of Genesis 1–11), and commentaries on Leviticus, Joshua, and the Song of Songs. He has edited twenty-five books, most recently co-editing with B. T. Arnold, Ancient Israel's History: An Introduction to Issues and Sources; as well as editing Bryan C. Babcock's Sacred Ritual: A Study of the West Semitic Ritual Calendars in Leviticus 23 and the Akkadian Text Emar 445; and commentaries on Septuagint texts, such as Exodus: A Commentary on the Greek Text of Codex Vaticanus and 1 Esdras: Introduction and Commentary on the Greek Text in Codex Vaticanus. In addition to several hundred book reviews and dictionary articles, Dr. Hess has published more than one hundred scholarly articles in collected essays and journals such as Biblica, Biblical Archaeologist, Bulletin for Biblical Research, Catholic Biblical Quarterly, Themelios, Tyndale Bulletin, Vetus Testamentum, and Zeitschrift fuer die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft. Current research projects include commentaries on the books of Genesis and Kings, an introduction to the Old Testament, and the study of ancient Near Eastern texts related to the Old Testament. He is a licensed mental health counselor, national certified counselor, and approved clinical supervisor. He is an active member of the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS) and the American Counseling Association (ACA). He currently serves on the board of the Association of Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling (ASERVIC) and is a member of the ACA Cyber Task Force. Dr. Hull received a PhD in counselor education and supervision from Regent University, an MA in Counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary, and a BA from Dordt College. Prior to joining the Denver Seminary counseling department, Dr. Hull was chair of the online clinical mental health counseling program at Grace College and Seminary and an assistant professor in the College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences at Argosy University. He has practiced counseling in a variety of diverse settings and continues to teach, write, and present on topics related to addictions, clinical supervision, creative use of technology in clinical training, and professional development issues in counselor education and training.
