Carlos was the lead pastor of a growing church. Danny was a military chaplain. What did these three leaders have in common? Quite unexpectedly their lives and ministries began to unravel. They all became broken leaders. In the Book of Psalms, David—one of Scripture's most renowned broken leaders—reminds us that God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. When life starts to come apart, God is present and active to bring healing. Yet this truth is more easily preached than practiced. For Marianne, Carlos, and Danny, the demands of ministry and an unspoken expectation to have it all together made their brokenness a liability. By the time they acknowledged their need for healing, the damage they had experienced was already profound. Fortunately, each of these leaders discovered Restoring the Soul, an organization in Littleton, Colorado with the mission of providing life-changing soul care for leaders experiencing sexual, relational, or ministry brokenness. They received intensive, in- depth therapy that combined professional counseling and spiritual direction over an extended period. At Restoring the Soul, leaders escape the pressures and responsibilities of ministry during half-day sessions scheduled over two weeks. This safe and structured environment allows them to address a variety of issues: sexual brokenness; unresolved issues of the past; struggles in marriage, ministry, or other relationships; cultivating intimacy with God; and more. Intensive counseling at Restoring the Soul creates opportunities for leaders to move forward with substantial healing, clarity, and direction. When leaders experience emotional, spiritual, and relational health, they are restored so that their lives and ministries can overflow to benefit others. *All names have been changed to protect confidentiality.
