93 CF 612 Supervised Project in Christian Formation This course allows students to practice what they have learned about Christian formation by designing and implementing a ministry project under the supervision of faculty. It is structured in a learning plan format, which requires independent and self-directed learning, in which the student identifies appropriate resources to carry out the project in an approved ministry setting. Offered summer sessions. One hour. CF 613 Christian Formation Retreat Experience This course provides an intense formational experience in a 5-day residential retreat undergirded with appropriate academic reading and guided by a spiritual director with the goal of deeper knowledge of God and self. Additional fees apply for food and lodging. Offered summer sessions. One hour. CF 630 Theological Tensions and Spiritual Formation: Historical Studies Examines several core theological conflicts in Christian history that are of particular relevance to Christian spirituality. The historical contexts of the questions, the key thinkers and leaders, and the discourse and resolutions will be explored. Each development is then considered in light of the spiritual formation that issued out of the different positions in the conflict. These positions will be viewed as voices that shape spiritual formation, with a view toward better understanding directors' and directees' spiritual assumptions and positions. Offered spring semester, odd years. Two hours. CF 640 Following Christ in the Monastic Tradition Encourages students to develop deeper patterns and disciplines of spiritual formation by learning from the history and practices of Christian monasticism. Students will be invited to consider how an understanding of the religious life can inform, inspire, and reshape their own life of discipleship. There will be a focus on engaging with original monastic writers and sources, especially the Conferences of John Cassian. Offered spring semester, even years. Two hours. CF 590, 690 Studies in Christian Formation and Soul Care These course numbers are reserved for courses of special or one-time interest that do not otherwise appear in the catalog. Two or three hours.
