2016-2017 Denver Seminary West Texas Extension Student Handbook 32 Conduct Committee (SCC) for disciplinary review. All matters related to sexual discrimination or sexual misconduct will automatically be forwarded to the Seminary's Title IX Committee. *For information about how the seminary defines Fitness for Ministry and Professional Disposition, see page 11 of this publication. Remediation and Formation Committee (RFC) Comprised of members from the faculty and staff, the RFC meets once per month during the fall and spring sessions, and as-needed during the summer and intersession terms. One designee from the RFC will be appointed as the "Review Chair" for each referral and will function as the liaison between the RFC and the student for the duration of his/her remediation process. Once the RFC receives a referral, they will review it at their next scheduled meeting. When referrals are forwarded to the RFC, the Dean of Students will notify the student in question. Remediation and Formation for Non-Academic Matters After reviewing the referral, the RFC will identify the specific area(s) of concern and draft a remediation plan that the student will be expected to complete within the dates set by the committee. The Review Chair will email the plan to the student and request that he/she join them at their next meeting wherein the student will be invited to share any additional information, and the plan will be finalized, adjusted as needed and approved. The student will maintain contact with his/her Review Chair as needed. After the remediation plan completion date, the RFC will assess whether or not the plan has been completed at their ensuing meeting. If the plan has been completed, the Dean of Students will receive a copy of the remediation worksheet to be filed in the student's record. The worksheet will document the details of the issue, the content of all conversations with the student, all corrective actions taken, and all follow-up procedures that were implemented. If it is determined that the plan has not been completed, the RFC may grant an extension, require the student to engage continued remediation, or escalate the matter to a Student Conduct Committee for disciplinary review. In certain situations, the RFC may recommend that a hold may be placed on the student's account preventing the student from registering or graduating until after the remediation plan has been satisfied. Any student who has been referred to remediation but disagrees with that decision or believes it is being handled improperly may file a grievance with the Dean of Students or Vice President of Student Life and Enrollment Management. Remediation and Formation for Academic Matters For certain academic matters, remediation referrals may be submitted to the Office of the Provost/Academic Dean. Depending on the nature and seriousness of the concern, the Provost/Academic Dean may decide to forward the matter directly to the Remediation and Formation Committee (RFC), and the process outlined above will ensue. When referrals are forwarded to the RFC, the Provost/Academic Dean will notify the student in question. The Provost/Academic Dean may otherwise decide to forward the matter to the respective Division Chair for resolution, or decide that further dialogue is necessary with the student, faculty member in whose class or area the concern initiated, or with the referring party. The Provost/Academic Dean may also escalate the matter directly to the Faculty Concerns Committee (FCC) for adjudication, or determine that no action is required.
