Propelling the Dreams of Others ALUMNI & DONORS 10 SPRING 2018 There is something about being a student that sets the stage for dreaming of possible paths and ministry goals. It may even introduce you to a partner who can walk alongside you through it all. Dave Ward, who graduated in 1996 with an MDiv with a concentration in pastoral counseling, met his future partner in ministry—and life—at Denver Seminary. The year he was student body president at the Seminary, he met Angie on the first day of new student orientation. She, too, graduated in 1996, with an MA in educational ministries and administration, emphasis in youth and family ministries. Today, she serves the Seminary as an associate professor. This pair shared a passion for the local and global church, which was shaped by the faculty of the Seminary. Angie shared that professors like Dr. Scott Wenig, who mentored the couple, had a significant impact on both of them. "Scott taught me how to preach. He clearly influenced my ministry, because I'm still a teaching pastor," said Dave. "And I honed my counseling chops with Rod Cooper. I learned so much about counseling and the kingdom of God from him. Every class married the theoretical to the practical. It wasn't just an academic degree." After more than 20 years in fruitful ministry, Dave and Angie hoped to give back to the Seminary and the next generation of students in the form of scholarships. This dream became possible when Dave received an inheritance upon his parents' passing in 2015. Dave and Angie loved their experience as students, but according to Angie, "It's not because of nostalgia that we are giving to the Seminary. It's because of the confidence we have in what it's doing now and where it's going." "We were pleasantly surprised by how many options there are to give to Denver Seminary that would fit with our dreams and hopes," said Angie. "They call it 'donor-focused giving' in that they want to honor the goals of the donor." Now, in the fall of 2018, students will be able to apply for two renewable $5,000 annual grants: the Ward MDiv Preaching Scholarship, given in honor of Dr. Scott Wenig, and the Ward MA Leadership Scholarship. "The dream we had to give back will now help propel another's dream forward," Angie shared. "If you are considering giving, I encourage you to reach out to the Seminary to hear about all of the options. We were able to give more and sooner than we thought!"
