4 SPRING 2019 NOTABLE News from the Denver Seminary community. F.Y.I. Denver Seminary Becomes Debt-Free Denver Seminary experienced an enormous blessing in the 2018 fiscal year. While the primary three administrative buildings and land of the main campus have been debt-free for many years, an approximately $10-million bond was issued to build the 93 on- campus housing units when they were constructed. In addition to paying toward that balance over the last 10 years, the Seminary has received $4,000,000 from key generous donors in the past two years to pay off the bond in full! Financial stability is a key concern of many donors when they evaluate an organization to support. It is a tremendous blessing for Denver Seminary to be debt-free. This brings a new level of stability to prepare men and women to engage the needs of the world with the redemptive power of the gospel and the life-changing truth of Scripture. New Presidential Scholarship Fund Established to Retain Top Applicants Each year some of Denver Seminary's most qualified applicants cannot attend because they lack the necessary resources or choose a seminary that offers more financial aid than Denver Seminary can afford. Often Denver Seminary is the applicant's first choice, but they are not able to enroll due to limited finances. The Presidential Scholarship Fund has been established to attract and retain students whose academic record, ministry experience, and personal maturity set them apart. These students lead in their churches, communities, families, and work, and do so for the sake of the gospel. Presidential Scholars will commit to finishing a master of divinity degree in three years (26 credit hours per year) as on-campus students. They will also commit to serving in a local ministry or church while enrolled as students and will meet regularly as a cohort for personal encouragement and mentoring with President Mark Young and senior faculty members. Denver Seminary developed this scholarship with the hope of securing enough funding to support three cohorts of four students over the next six years. To that end, the goal was to raise $900,000 for the Presidential Scholarship Fund by June 30, 2020. We were overwhelmed with the generosity of our donors when last fall several couples and individuals made this dream a reality by pledging over $1.1 million to the Presidential Scholarship Fund. Because of their generosity, we are able to expand our dream to include a fourth cohort in 2022. Our goal is to raise an additional $100,000 by June 30, 2020.
