22 FALL 2019 Denver Seminary Honors Gordon and Gail MacDonald in their Retirement Gordon MacDonald, who was named chancellor of Denver Seminary in 2011, concluded his eight years of service in May. Prior to this appointment, he served as interim president of Denver Seminary from 2008 to 2009. He is an author, speaker, and teacher, and was a pastor for more than 40 years. As chancellor, Dr. MacDonald focused on serving as an ambassador for the Seminary to advance its reach and reputation across the country. Together with his wife Gail, the MacDonalds also faithfully invested in mentorship opportunities with students and provided pastoral care for faculty. Dr. MacDonald's academic background includes a BA from the University of Colorado, an MDiv from Denver Seminary, and two honorary Doctor of Divinity degrees. He has written more than two dozen books and co-authored others with Gail. Perhaps his best known book has been Ordering Your Private World, which won the Gold Medallion and the Platinum Awards from the Evangelical Christian Publishing Association. Dr. MacDonald serves as editor-at-large with Leadership Journal, a publication of Christianity Today, Inc. Until September of 2007, he was the chairman of the board of World Relief Corporation, an NAE- associated relief and development organization committed to the alleviation of suffering and poverty in the areas of HIV/AIDS, micro- enterprise development, refugee resettlement, and disaster assistance. Gordon and Gail MacDonald have been married 53 years and call Concord, New Hampshire home. They are the parents of two children and have five grandchildren. In addition to time spent with their family, the MacDonalds' favorite activities include hiking, biking, kayaking, and reading. Mentor and friend, Gordon and Gail filled those roles with grace, compassion and wisdom for many of us in the Denver Seminary community. They were living bridges to our history, reminding us of the deep values of the seminary and exhorting us to keep pressing forward on that foundation. We are a better seminary because of their ministry among us. And we are better people because of their presence in our lives. – Dr. Mark Young, President
