22 SPRING 2021 Denver Seminary Reaches Korean-Speaking Students Around the Globe Denver Seminary's Korean Studies Program (KSP) launched in January 2020 with a vision to expand the Seminary's mission by delivering biblical and theological education in the Korean language. Dr. Sung Wook Chung brought this idea to the leadership of Denver Seminary, who embraced it with passion and courage. Dr. Chung, who joined the faculty in 2005, serves as professor of Christian theology and director of Asian Initiative. Currently, the KSP offers three degree programs: MA in Biblical and Theological Studies, Master of Divinity, and Doctor of Ministry. These programs are offered fully online to train and equip Korean-speaking men and women around the globe. Since the birth of the program with two courses and 14 students in Spring 2020, the program has been growing exponentially. In Spring 2021, about 75 students are taking eight courses in the Korean language. We expect to welcome more than 100 students in Fall 2021, offering 10 courses taught by 11 professors. Current students come from 13 states, as well as South Korea, Japan, Canada, and New Zealand, and bring a variety of professional and ministerial backgrounds. Among them are medical doctors, lawyers, university professors, CPAs, CEOs, missionaries, and ministers who are committed to Christ and have passion for His kingdom. Do-Yoon Kwon, a current student who is working toward his MA in Biblical and Theological Studies, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to study in Korean. "Denver Seminary's Korean Studies Program has been an invaluable resource to me because theological studies are not just an academic discipline but a process of holistic growth and faith formation." "It allows me to dive deep into God's Word in Korean, without any language barrier and without any hesitation." The KSP keeps a pool of 13 adjunct faculty members who hold doctoral degrees from Oxford, Cambridge, London, Aberdeen, Boston, Trinity, Westminster, Southwestern, and Denver Seminary. Dr. In-Kyung Chung, director of Korean Studies, has been a catalyst for consolidating the program's foundation, structure, and direction.
