42 about the various stages of aging and ways that Christian leaders can effectively engage adults wherever they are in their personal development and Christian pilgrimage. Three hours. DMP-822 Building a Church of People With Purpose It is not sufficient for leaders to know where they are going. For a church to be healthy and move forward the people must also know where they are going. This seminar will focus on the issue of building a church of people with purpose. Students will learn how to communicate mission and vision to their congregations and/or Christian organizations and how to train ordinary Christians to participate in real ministry. Three hours. DMP-823 Relating Theology & Culture In a world wallowing in relativism, the church and individual Christians must be called back to biblical values as the only foundation for any genuine and lasting impact on their culture. In this seminar, students will learn how the church can respond to the current culture wars debate and the church's place in modern society. Students develop a strategy for understanding both theology and culture and learn to communicate Christian principles in ways that are understood by people whose thinking has been molded by cultural relativism rather than the Bible. Three hours. DMP-825 Navigating the Minefields of Ministry There is a need to step away from the daily pressure of public Christian service and observe some of the personal dimensions of life in leadership. In this seminar, students will be encouraged to engage in self- examination through dialogue with peers and class instructors in order to help see themselves and their ministries more clearly. Problems and challenges that are common to ministry will be examined, as well as strategies that might help make leadership and ministry more sustainable and satisfying in the future. Three hours. DMP-826 A Systems Approach to Churches & Organizations Churches and organizations are not a group of people, they are a complex whole. They are interrelated in a system that includes interactions and processes. Understanding the whole is necessary to effectively address changes, transitions, and conflict. Understanding the whole is necessary to effectively address changes, transitions, and conflict. In this seminar, students will learn to construct a genogram of their own family and of larger entities such as a congregation or a special ministry. The seminar will also study systems theory, dealing with conflict, church health, biblical models, working and serving in emotional systems, and other related subjects. This seminar also counts as a core elective for Church & Parachurch Executive Leadership (DML course code) and Leadership in Community Spiritual Formation (DMS course code). Three hours. DMP-827 Growing Healthy Churches Jesus said, "It is not the healthy that need a doctor, but the sick" (Mark 2:17; NIV). A church with people made well by the great physician is a healthy church. What does it take to move from disease to health? What do healthy growing churches look like? How are they grown? How do they grow? In this seminar, students will ask and answer these questions and consider what healthy church growth looks like that includes growth that is both numerical and spiritual. Three hours. DMP-890 Independent Study in Preaching & Pastoral Ministry An independent study in pastoral ministries may be arranged with an appropriate professor with the approval of the DMin Director. Only two independent studies or transfer of credits from another seminary may be included in the student's course work. Three hours.
