129 FC 1103 Obstacles and Opportunities in Ministry and Mission This final core course addresses a number of current obstacles and opportunities facing ministry practitioners in a variety of ministry contexts. Students begin to identify/define specific issues within their own ministry setting that they may want to address and/or use for the doctoral-level project. Students will be exposed to various models for doing research and will begin to construct a literature review for their doctoral project that is firmly grounded in their biblical and theological convictions. Three hours. PROJECT AND THESIS (REQUIRED) DP 1101 Project The program concludes with the completion of a professional doctoral-level project. All previously taken seminars are a part of the preparation for the project. Early in the doctoral program, students will identify a problem, challenge, opportunity, or topic that needs to be addressed in their ministry setting, determine what specifically needs to be changed or achieved, and then design and conduct a project to address that need. The project demonstrates the student's ability to design and conduct a project that is both biblically and theologically grounded, supported by the literature, and relevant to the practice of ministry. The project requires the student to write a five chapter scholarly paper that introduces, develops, and assesses the effectiveness of the project. Four hours. DP 1102 Project Continuation Each subsequent term after students have registered for their project (through the final term of their fifth program year), they must register to continue to work on their project and pay a continuation fee of $250. This non-credit continuation course allows students who have registered for the project (DP 1101) to continue to be active in the program. Students must register for this course the term following DP 1101 and every term thereafter until the end of the fifth program year or the term in which they will graduate. If the graduation term falls before the end of their fifth program year, students will register for DP 1104 in the final term. Students who have not graduated by the end of the fifth program year must request a program extension and, if granted, will then register for DP 1103 Project Extended Continuation, until the term of graduation. Consecutive enrollment is required. No credit. DP 1103 Project Extended Continuation Students who have requested and been granted a program extension must register for this course each term beginning with the first term of their fifth program year and pay an extended continuation fee of $500. Registration is required each semester until the term of graduation. Consecutive enrollment is required. No credit. DP 1104 Project Completion In the term when students complete and defend their thesis the student will register for the final three hours of the project. Students should not register for this until they are sure that they will be completing their work and graduating in that term. Students must also complete the application for graduation and submit it to the Registrar's Office no later than the deadline noted on the form in order to graduate that semester. Three hours.
