130 LEADERSHIP TRACK (REQUIRED) LD 1101 Leading Well: Becoming a Leader Who Leads Effectively The aim of this seminar is to provide a foundational theology of Christian leadership and an overview of some key leadership theories that are helpful for leaders to know and practice. Various leadership models will be examined and discussed (i.e., servant leadership, adaptive leadership, transformational leadership, situational leadership) with a view towards helping leaders develop their own philosophy/theology of leadership as it applies to their current or future ministry context. Offered alternate spring semesters. Three hours. LD 1102 Leading Systems/Leading Change This seminar helps students understand the nature of systems, the dynamics of change, and why so many people resist change. How Christian organizations function as emotional systems and how systems respond to, and are affected by, change are analyzed. The role conflict plays in change is examined along with the practical skills Christian leaders can use to become more effective managing conflict with the goal that they might become more effective change agents in the ministry contexts in which they serve. Offered alternate spring semesters. Three hours. LD 1103 Leading and Managing the Church and Parachurch In this seminar, students will examine how people come together in organizations and how organizational processes, structures, and cultures impact and influence the effectiveness of churches and parachurches. Students will look at Christian organizations through several key frames or lenses with the goal of better understanding how these ministries currently function and ways leaders can help them be healthier and function more efficiently. Offered alternate spring semesters. Three hours. LD 1104 Developing Leaders: A Philosophy and Strategy for Leadership Training Students are exposed to a spectrum of leadership development theory and practice, including mentoring, developing spiritual gifts, understanding learning styles and adult learning strategies, and developing emotional intelligences. Various training models will be presented and practical tools for creating more leadership density in the student's church or Christian organization. Offered alternate spring semesters. Three hours. MARRIAGE AND FAMILY MINISTRY TRACK (REQUIRED) MF 1101 Marriage Counseling This seminar provides an overview of the various approaches to marriage counseling, covering a wide range of theories, including cognitive, systems, communication, emotionally-focused, and family of origin approaches. Information from both psychologically and biblically-based theories is presented. A transformational approach to lifelong change with marital interventions is a core component of this course. Students are provided with a variety of skill sets that will assist them in understanding the etiology of relational problems and identifying and implementing strategies for change. Based on a biblical theology of marriage and family, this seminar provides students from a wide range of ministry areas with interventions for helping couples in distress. Offered alternate spring semesters. Three hours.
