2015-2016 Student Handbook 46 Remediation for Non-Academic Matters After receiving the referral, the SRC will invite the student in question to attend their next scheduled meeting wherein the referral will be reviewed and the student will be granted time to dialogue with the committee and share any additional information before the plan is finalized. Students who are unable to attend in person may make arrangements to join the committee via an agreed upon video chat application and/or submit a typed written statement to be shared with the committee members. If the student elects not to attend the meeting, his/her opportunity to dialogue with the committee will subsequently be accomplished through the assigned Review Chair. In reviewing the referral, the SRC will identify the specific area(s) of concern and draft a remediation plan that the student will be expected to complete within the dates set by the committee. The assigned Review Chair will email the plan to the student, and the student will maintain contact with their Review Chair as needed. After the remediation plan completion date, the SRC will assess whether or not the plan has been completed at their ensuing meeting. If the plan has been completed, the Dean of Students will receive a copy of the remediation worksheet to be filed in the student's record. This worksheet will document the details of the issue, the content of all conversations with the student, all corrective actions taken, and all follow-up procedures that were implemented. If it is determined that the plan has not been completed, the SRC may grant an extension, require the student to go through continued remediation, or escalate the matter to the Student Conduct Committee for disciplinary review. Any student who has been referred to remediation and who does not believe the concern exists or believes it is being handled improperly may file a grievance with the Dean of Students or Vice President of Student Life and Enrollment Management. Remediation for Academic Matters For certain academic matters, remediation referrals may be submitted to the Provost/Academic Dean. Depending on the nature and seriousness of the offense, the Provost/Academic Dean may decide to forward the matter directly to the SRC, and the process outlined above will ensue. When referrals are forwarded to the SRC, the Provost/Academic Dean will notify the student in question that the matter has been escalated to remediation and that a member of the SRC will contact him/her with more information. The Provost/Academic Dean may otherwise decide to forward the matter to the respective Division Chair for resolution, or decide that further dialogue is necessary with the student, faculty member in whose class or area the offense was made, or with the referring party. The Provost/Academic Dean may also escalate the matter directly to the Faculty Concerns Committee (FCC) for adjudication, or determine that no action is required. If forwarded to the Division Chair, he/she may require the student to work with the respective faculty member to redo the assignment, issue the student an automatic failure for the assignment or the course, or forward the matter directly to the SRC for remediation. After the remediation plan completion date, the SRC will assess whether or not the plan has been completed. If the plan has been completed, the Provost/Academic Dean will receive a copy of the remediation worksheet to be filed in the student's record. If it is determined that the plan has not been completed, the SRC may grant an extension, require the student to go through continued remediation, or escalate the matter to the FCC for final review.
